AS the country accelerates its digital transformation roadmap, there is also a greater need to boost cyber preparedness and resilience for Filipino companies and organizations especially those in the banking, government and health-care sectors.

In a recent press briefing, Ian Felipe, Trend Micro Philippines country manager, told journalists that these local organizations have to act fast because they were identified in Trend Micro’s 2021 Annual Cybersecurity Report as some of the most vulnerable in the region.

As digitalization offers growth opportunities, Felipe said the risk also grows as attackers are going to the cloud targeting the DevOps tools and the pipeline.

“Data breaches, ransomware incidents and privacy concerns are affecting companies of all sizes across industries, and with an increasingly digitally connected world, the need to enhance cyber resilience has become a main challenge for enterprises in the country,” Felipe explained.

He also pointed out that companies and organizations should be aware of the growing ransomware threats in the country. According to Trend Micro’s 2021 Annual Cybersecurity Report, the Philippines will be a prime target as cybercriminals see more opportunities. The report showed the Philippines was ranked 4th in Southeast Asia for most ransomware attacks for 2022-2021, up by two notches when it ranked 6th in 2020.

In response to the growing cybersecurity challenges in the country, Trend Micro recently launched Trend Micro One, a new unified cybersecurity and attack surface management platform.

Felipe said the introduction of Trend Micro One is a major step toward consolidating a multitude of security products and features in a single platform, enabling customers to better understand, communicate and mitigate cyber risks.

“Trend Micro One enables organizations to prepare for, withstand and rapidly recover from threats from all touchpoints, while delivering end-to-end solutions for businesses’ cloud platforms, e-mail, network and other IoT environments. The cloud-based solution delivers a continuous lifecycle of complete risk and threat assessment with attack discovery, cyber risk analysis, and threat mitigation and response,” Felipe emphasized.

“Trend Micro One is the product of 30 years of experience and innovation in cybersecurity. It is a platform developed by cybersecurity professionals for cybersecurity professionals, so organizations can be their most resilient,” he added.

Felipe emphasized the entry that the unified approach is set to boost the cyber preparedness and resilience landscape of stretched security teams and siloed security products in the Philippines.

“Trend Micro One is designed to help businesses discover the ever-changing attack surface, assess and prioritize the most pressing risks and vulnerabilities, and subsequently mitigate them. It functions as a security platform and an expanded security team, so business leaders in the Philippines can focus on driving their business forward,” he said.

The unified security platform also includes expert services such as Managed Extended Detection & Response (XDR) which promises better visibility, 24 x 7 monitoring, and enhanced threat detection and response.

Within a single platform, Trend Micro One will enable customers to:

  • Discover the attack surface: Identify, monitor, and profile cyber assets in customers’ environments;
  • Understand and continuously assess risk: Analyse risk exposure, the status of vulnerabilities, configuration of security controls, and types of threat activity and;
  • Effectively mitigate risk: Ensure the right preventative controls and take swift action to mitigate risk and remediate attacks across the enterprise by leveraging Trend Micro’s threat and risk intelligence.
