Samsung’s new stretchable display technology can make 2D content look like 3D and it’s impressive
Samsung has unveiled the latest prototype of its stretchable display technology.- It shows the screen moving up and down according to the flowing lava.

Samsung is one of the pioneers when it comes to innovative displays on smartphones, TVs and monitors. Its latest experiment in this field is a stretchable display. Samsung Display showed off a prototype of its stretchable OLED display that is 13-inches long and can be three-dimensionally stretched as per the content displayed on the screen. The stretchable OLED display was unveiled at the Global Tech Korea 2021 event, ET News
reported.
Samsung Display actually showed a video demonstrating its stretchable display. It shows the video of flowing lava where the display actually moves according to how the lava flows. It looks somewhat like a breathing display where the screen moves up and down, which then gives the illusion of 3D from a 2D content. The flowing lava looks very realistic giving a more immersive experience as it moves within the display.

According to Changhee Lee, Vice President of Samsung Display, “The degree of deformation of stretchable OLED was about 5% in the past, but now it has improved significantly. With the advent of various displays, innovation will also occur in finished products.”
The company has actually come a long way from its first unveiling of a stretchable display in 2017. Back then it unveiled the
first prototype of its stretchable OLED that was 9.1-inches long which couldn’t reproduce as many movements as the latest one does. It has now expanded the length and with more improvements. According to ET News, stretchable displays are the most difficult when it comes to implementing the technology, and it’s also considered the end point of flexible display technology.
Samsung Display had also demonstrated a stretchable OLED display earlier this year in June. Here, the company integrated the display into a stretchable heart monitor that can be stuck onto the skin. The purpose of this is to measure your biometric data anytime without having to remove the device. It should also feel more natural than using another device. The display also shows your biometric data. Samsung expects this stretchable display to be used in health wearables and also for patients with certain diseases.
