Russian mother whose jealous ex-husband hacked off both her hands with an axe ‘has found new love’

A mother-of-two whose husband axed off her hands after 'wrongly' accusing her of being unfaithful has revealed she is in love again and plans to marry. 

Russian Margarita Grachyova, 26, has used a new book to reveal her fresh romance as she gave her most graphic account of the barbaric Medieval-style attack two years ago.

She told how her monster ex-husband Dmitry Grachyov, a trained psychologist crazed by jealousy, struck her 40 times with the blunt axe.

The 27-year-old drove her to a forest, tied her up then checked her underwear - convinced that if she was wearing matching lingerie it meant she was intending to have sex with her supposed lover.

After being viciously attacked by her partner, Dmitry Grachyov, the 26-year-old has found love again and plans to marry 

Ms Grachyova's ex-husband is currently serving a 14-year jail term for his brutal axe attack

She has consistently denied being unfaithful to him and revealed in her new book, Happy Without Hands, how her partner viciously attacked her.

'He opened the boot where there were tourniquets and ties for my torture, as well as an axe,' she said.

'And a glass jar with some kind of liquid, possibly acid, because he had threatened to pour it over me.'

He ordered her to: 'Stretch out your arms', she said. Ms Grachyova then added: 'He forcibly put one tie on my wrist.

'Then tied the tourniquet just above the elbow and on the shoulders. He knotted it hard, it was painful.'

Medics managed to sew her left hand back on, but the right has been replaced by an artificial limb. 

Describing the awful attack, she said: 'I cried and begged him to stop. Flashing through my head was the thought he would chop off my hands, then my legs, then my head.

'He first complimented me saying I was beautiful on this day, and then checked the colour of my underwear.

'Fortunately it was not matching. Had it been the same he would probably have used the acid on me.'

Despite her ordeal Ms Grachyova described in great detail the moment her crazed husband began hacking at her limbs.

She wrote: 'Then he began to chop - the sight of blood did not cool him, on the contrary...He chopped and chopped.

The book was written with her mother Irina Sheikina, a journalist, who has helped her cope with her ordeal

'I screamed in agony and wondered why I didn't lose consciousness. 'I'm a coward - but somehow stayed conscious.

'He chopped and chopped, probably striking me 40 times.'

She tried to 'crawl away' to save her life but Dmitry Grachyov continued to swing the axe at her.

'Then he jumped onto my back and began to chop my leg with the axe,' she said.

'It was very painful, I remember how a blunt blade pierced the skin, and it was like tearing apart. I stopped crawling. But just kept chopping….'

He severed both hands then drove her to hospital while she still had blood gushing from her wounds and confessed his crime by handing himself in to police.

He was later jailed for 14 years and deprived of his rights as a father to their two sons.

Margarita has won worldwide praise for the way she carried on her life after the appalling torture inflicted on her.

As well as raising the couple's two sons, Ms Grachyova learned to play bowls, go diving, and posed for a racy photoshoot.

One hand was sewn back on, but she has only partial use of it, while on the other she has a 'bionic arm'.

In her new book Happy Without Hands, out in Russia, Ms Grachyova aims 'to help women who suffer from domestic violence'.

She said: 'It will push them to leave tyrant husbands, to understand how abnormal it is to live with such a person.'

Saying she plans to accept her new marriage proposal, Ms Grachyova does not reveal the man's name but writes: 'Thank you, Mr X.

Ms Grachyova said she wants to explore taboos about living with prosthetics and help people overcome disabilities 

'We got to know each other not so long ago, but you have already helped me to make the right decisions more than once.

'You supported me and even made offered me to become your wife.'

Ms Grachyova said she also wanted to explore taboos about living with prosthetics, and to help people with seemingly overpowering difficulties.

'I aim to let them know that they do not need to get sour, but rather move on,' she said.

The book was written with her mother Irina Sheikina, a journalist, who has helped her cope with her ordeal.

She told how she woke in hospital after her first operation hoping the attack had just been a 'terrible and wacky dream' but then realising it was true.

Ms Grachyova added; 'After all, this could not happen, it was from the Middle Ages.'
