The Center for Effective Lawmaking, a nonpartisan collaboration between Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, has named U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, as the most effective Republican lawmaker on technology-related issues.

Walberg is member of the House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.

“Through a solutions-oriented approach, I am working to expand access to rural broadband, strengthen children’s digital safety, build a skilled telecommunications workforce, and more," Walberg said in a news release. "In today’s connected world, technology impacts so much of our daily lives, and I am honored to receive this recognition for my leadership on such an important issue to the communities I represent in Michigan.”

Alan Wiseman, co-director of the Center for Effective Lawmaking, said Walberg has been an active Republican legislator on the issue of technology.

“(Walberg) introduced five bills in this issue area, and guided one of them through the legislative process in the House until it passed the chamber; making him one of the very few Republican Representatives who succeeded in having a Science & Technology bill pass the House,” Wiseman said in the release.

The Center’s rankings are calculated by the advancement of legislation from the 116th session of Congress, which was the session held 2019-2020.
