Quora Trims Class Action Claims Over Data Breach

Quora Inc. shook off several counts in a consolidated class action over a 2018 data breach that allegedly compromised the information of nearly 100 million Quora website users.

The proposed class members may proceed with negligence claims against the social media platform, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said Dec. 19.

The plaintiffs’ alleged injuries—the risk of identity theft and loss of time—are sufficient to survive Quora’s motion to dismiss the negligence count, the court said. The court rejected Quora’s argument that the allegations are merely speculative.
