Port Canaveral awarded $1.9M to defend against terrorism, cybersecurity threats – WFTV

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Port Canaveral is getting $1.9 million in federal funding to help upgrade security measures to defend against terrorism and security threats.

The money is coming from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Port Security Grant Program.

“Grants like these are important funding to help us employ new resources and latest technologies to augment our security measures with an enhanced ability to detect and respond to threats,” said Port CEO Capt. John Murray.

A portion of the money will go toward elevating and enhancing the port’s cybersecurity defenses.

The money will also help purchase a new Security Rapid Response Boat. Officials said the vessel will be a 33-foot “Life Proof” boat operated by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to respond to  chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosive threats.
