Penn College names dean of Indiana technology college as its new provost
WILLIAMSPORT – The dean and a professor at the College of Technology at Indiana State University has been named vice president for academic affairs and provost of the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The board of the Penn State affiliate in a special session Monday approved the selection of Neslihan “Nesli” Alp as the highest-ranking academic office of the college.
She will assume the post Aug. 1, replacing Michael J. Reed who on July 1 becomes Penn College’s president. He is succeeding Davie Jane Gilmour who is retiring after holding that position for 24 years.
As dean of the 2,000-student College of Technology at Indiana State, Alp led five departments, the flight academy, Air Force and Army ROTC and oversaw 80 faculty and staff.
Before going to Indiana State in 2018, she was associate dean of academic affairs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she served in a variety of administrative and faculty roles there over a 19-year period.
Alp holds a doctorate in engineering management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
She has master’s of science in industrial engineering and bachelor’s of science degrees in engineering management, both from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey.
She also earned a certificate in management and leadership in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Penn College, which emphasizes applied technology education, has approximately 4,000 students.
