Panel Discussion on Ethical Data with Ivana, Markus, Mikio, and Danila

iSpeech

A panel discussion on ethical data with Ivana Bartoletti, Markus Anderljung, Danila Petrelli, and Mikio Braun hosted by GAIA's Daniel Langkilde.

Ivana Bartoletti is the founder of Women Leading in AI – a global organisation empowering women working in the field. She is an International public speaker and commentator on privacy, digital rights, data ethics, the IoT, and the governance of Artificial Intelligence. She will talk about what ethics is, what the key issues are, and why it matters to us as machine learning engineers and data scientists – and what we can do (beyond fixing algorithms).

Markus is the Head of Operations and Policy Engagement at the Center for the Governance of AI. The Center, based at Oxford University, does foundational research into the question of how we can steer the use and development of artificial intelligence to the benefit of humankind, avoiding the risks while reaping the rewards. Markus is a former Senior Consultant at EY, previous Executive Director of Effective Altruism Sweden, and studied Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. He will introduce the field of AI governance: how can we govern the AI revolution?

Danila has a master in Language Technology from Gothenburg University and currently work as a linguistics resource developer at Recorded Future. At Recorded Future, they struggle with the creation of good datasets for machine learning on vast amounts of text, just like many other companies. Danila will talk about her experience with datasets at Recorded Future, fighting issues like imbalanced classes and overfitting for a terrorist event classifier.

Mikio is working at Zalando in the Search&Personalization department, supporting and enabling teams to bring AI and ML to the customer. He has a 10+ years background as a researcher in machine learning, both on developing new learning methods and various application areas. Mikio is a frequent talker at conferences on data science, scalable machine learning, and all the rest.

From the 2019 GAIA Conference held at Lindholmen Conference Centre on 9th of April 2019.
