First-ever all-encompassing data partnership in college sports to deploy proprietary platform across the entire conference, powering enhanced data rights and new products

SAN FRANCISCO – March 15, 2022 – The Pac-12 Conference and Tempus Ex Machina, a technology, data and media company, today announced the first-ever, all-encompassing data technology partnership in collegiate athletics.

The multi-year partnership will see Tempus Ex deploy its proprietary technology to package and fully maximize the value of Pac-12 data rights by exclusively selecting, managing, and overseeing all data, statistics, and player-tracking providers, as well as data sellers for the conference. Tempus Ex will provide industry-leading, millisecond-latency data capture infrastructure, creating the fastest and most data-rich delivery in sports.

The partnership will create new and meaningful opportunities for fan engagement and will generate new commercial opportunities for Pac-12 universities – including new direct-to-consumer video and metaverse products. Tempus Ex technology will enable teams and officials to access footage from any camera feed with granular search capability for all metadata, including by categories such as student-athlete, play type and penalty, among others. The Tempus Ex technology has the ability to significantly enhance and power media and other partnerships, and enhance and optimize the one-to-one fan experience.

“Tempus Ex’s unique technology, which we have seen do revolutionary things for the NFL, will enable the Pac-12 to deliver an unparalleled advantage to our athletic programs, enable unique experiences for our student-athletes, and enhance the fan experience,” said Mark Shuken, Pac-12 Networks President.

Jamie Zaninovich, Pac-12 Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operations Officer, added: “Unlike traditional data reseller deals, this is a first-of-its-kind partnership because it will allow the Pac-12 to power new opportunities while simultaneously maximizing the value of our data rights as we evaluate our future media rights and enhance our support of Pac-12 athletic departments.”

Tempus Ex will also fund new programs focused on training student-athletes across Pac-12 universities in building educational and commercial products on top of the technology platform.

“Tempus Ex is committed to providing students and student-athletes with access to the most advanced, cutting-edge technology on the field and in the classroom,” said Larry Fitzgerald, Board Member, Tempus Ex Machina. “The Pac-12’s studentsand faculty will be the first to build research, educational and commercial productson Tempus Ex’s platform.
