Optus To Launch Cheap Chinese Oppo Smartphone With Half Baked Android OS – channelnews

Optus who appear to love cuddling up to organisations such as China Telcom and Huawei has recently ranged another bottom end Chinese smartphone from Oppo.

The $299 Oppo A72 is set to be sold exclusively by Optus via a Pre-Paid plan that will be available from 9th June 2020.

The device has a 6.5-inch LCD screen with 1080×2400 resolution, a 665 Snapdragon processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

A big problem with the device is that you don’t get the full version of the Android OS, instead users get the questionable ColorOS 7.1 which is Oppo’s customised version of an Android OS.

There is no facial recognition and users only get a 48MP quad camera.

Users do get a 5000mAh battery which is similar to Motorola devices that come with a full version of the Android 10 OS.

Michael Tran, managing director at OPPO Australia said “We provide smartphones with high technical standards, comfortable physicality and great accessibility,”

He has not said why Oppo is not offering a full Android 10 OS without a Chinese coded overlay developed by Oppo. We also don’t know whether information ends up on Chinese servers located in foreign Countries.
