OnePlus says a fix is coming for ‘phantom touch’ and other screen issues on the OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus has released a statement on the “phantom touch” issues that have been reported on the OnePlus 7 Pro, claiming that it plans to release an update in the coming weeks to resolve the problem. The specific problem happens when the screen registers input when it hasn’t been touched, causing the phone to appear as if it’s being controlled by someone other than you. The issue has mostly occurred when using the CPU-Z app, though some reports have seen it happen elsewhere in the system. Turning off the phone’s NFC radio appears to be a temporary, if less than ideal, fix until OnePlus officially patches it.

In addition, OnePlus says it is aware of “limited reports” of other touchscreen issues, including a lack of touch response at the screen’s corners. The company says it will release an update to fix this problem, too, but it did not elaborate on when that will be available.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the most impressive phones released this year, with excellent performance, a high refresh rate screen, and a price tag that’s hundreds of dollars less than comparable devices. But all of those things mean little if you’ve bought the phone and the touchscreen isn’t working as it should. It’s in OnePlus’ best interest to get these problems fixed as soon as possible.

The full statements on both problems are found below.

Phantom taps:

We have received limited reports from users describing their encounter of the “phantom taps” experience. Our team has worked hard to identify these cases, and we will release a firmware update in the upcoming weeks.

Other touchscreen problems:

OnePlus is aware of limited reports of this issue, and we will be issuing a software update to resolve it.
