GREATER NOIDA: The district administration has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against a man accused of shooting dead a security guard at the construction site of Oppo smartphone factory in Greater Noida.
Police said that the accused, Arun, has links to the dreaded Sundar Bhati gang and had killed the guard in a bid to bag the company’s building material contract. This is the third instance of the stringent NSA being invoked in the case. Apart from Arun, his accomplices Azad and Robin have also been booked under it.
District magistrate BN Singh said, “It was clear from the police report that the accused are professional criminals and that they could try to repeat the act after getting released from jail. So, NSA has been imposed to keep Arun in judicial custody for some more time.”
Police said the Arun’s bail application was cancelled earlier in the district sessions court after which his family moved high court. “The accused is currently lodged in Luksar jail with his accomplices. He and his men are involved several crimes and can’t be brought back into society as they can disturb the peace,” said Vaibhav Krishna, GB Nagar SSP.
On January 31, 11 people, including Robin, Azad, Arun, Sachin and Arun who were all later arrested, had come to the Oppo manufacturing unit in Ecotech 1 area in a car. While Arun, Robin and Azad had gone to attack the guard, the other two had waited for them in the car. The victim, Dhiresh Kumar, a resident of Hardoi, had sustained gunshot wounds in his abdomen. He died on April 30 while hearing in the case was still on.
The accused had been booked under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with a deadly weapon) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and sections of the Arms Act.
The GB Nagar administration had in April recommended invoking NSA after Oppo employees raised security issues, especially for Chinese workers, and submitted a written complaint that local goons were intimidating them.
