BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Sheriffs’ Office proudly cut the ribbon to the Property Crimes Complex, it’s their hope this new centralized location will better serve the people by preventing and solving crime in the community.

“We have plans to continue to grow and expand this unit for even more coverage and protection across the parish,” said Sheriff Sid Gautreaux.

The 7,500-square-foot facility houses an armed robbery, burglary, auto theft, and organized retail theft division. To add to that, they’re also leaning on technology to fight crime with the investigative support unit.

“We’re able to see things real-time and get that information to responding units,” said Major Willie Stewart. “We’re just like any other entity in today’s economy, we don’t have the numbers that we used to have, so we have to be smart about how we do things.”

Using cameras as a source of extra eyes and ears all over the city to quickly locate people whether they’ve just committed a crime or are in need of help. The new crime complex is open to the public for those who need to make a report or even talk to a detective.

“Cameras are our best witness. Cameras give us our best description when something goes down, our best description of a violator or a missing person,” said Stewart.

The new Property Crimes Complex is located at 11130 Industriplex Boulevard.
