Micron Technology’s India MD reads 4-6 books in a month

Books have always been a window into different worlds for Anand Ramamoorthy, Managing Director of Micron Technology (India) and played an even bigger role during the lockdowns.

"Bill Gates’s How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, Ten Lessons for a Post Pandemic World by Fareed Zakaria and 'How to Lead: Wisdom from world’s Greatest CEO’s, Founders and Game Changers' by David Rubenstien have been some of my recent reads," he says.

Learning
Both Bill Gates and Fareed Zakaria write about hard-hitting issues that are not just statistics anymore – they represent a reality that has begun to play itself out across the globe and are having far reaching consequences on our communities, according to Ramamoorthy.

"They also offer workable science-based solutions that need positive intent and inter-governmental focus to help avert disaster and realize opportunity for all in the post pandemic world. 'How to Lead', is an easier read in terms of its construct and is told in a series of informal conversations between the author and some of the top leaders we know and admire. I like the casual banter that offer both practical takeaways and food for thought in equal measure," he says.

Time
With the ongoing work commitments and busy schedule, Ramamoorthy only finds time to read over the weekends.

"I manage to finish between four to six books every month. I do my research before I order a book and looking for analysis and commentary on various topics like economics, technology, leadership, and politics," he shares.

Reading offers Ramamoorthy an escape from the e-mails, calls, and household chores and helps him slow down to an almost meditative state.

"It helps me think, puts daily work issues into perspective and enriches me in ways only a book can. It’s the smell of fresh print on crisp new pages or the smell of an old library book that has been read by many others before, that have a certain appeal. Moreover, physical copies give me much-needed time way from the multiple screens that hog my attention during the week. To be honest, I don’t ever recall reading on a device or over the internet. I look forward to the weekends, when like sit back with a cup of coffee and a book at my favourite spot at home," he ends.
