MICRO Act will boost technology growth

iSpeech.org

Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently signed the MICRO Act into law to incentivize the production of microchips in Illinois. The measure will boost microchip production and address the global shortage of semiconductors affecting manufacturers of products ranging from cellphones to automobiles.

The signing of the MICRO Act could not have come at a better time. It provides tax incentives for high-tech microchip production in Illinois and aligns with federal efforts to invest over $50 billion to expand American manufacturing. As a business owner and manufacturer in Illinois for over 30 years, I know that the state has a unique potential to become the leading producer of microchips to feed growing global demand. Tek Pak is a manufacturer producing thermoform packaging and carrier tape used in products ranging from microchips to COVID test kits. Microchip production requires the product to be placed in carrier tape, so the synergies that our company could create with new microchip manufacturing companies will be remarkable.

We are excited that the Micro Act was signed into law. It is time to build upon our successes and expand American manufacturing. We now look forward to seeing the state of Illinois grow as an economic powerhouse and a global center for microchip production and tech innovation.
