Men’s Tennis Downs NYU for Third Straight Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 8, 2022) – The Stevens Institute Technology men's tennis team won twice in doubles play and claimed five of the six singles flights to defeat New York University 7-2 Friday in a non-conference matchup at the Stevens Tennis Courts. 
 
Stevens has now won three straight matches and five out of its last six to improved to 5-4. NYU fell to 0-6. 

"I am so proud of how our guys competed today against a talented NYU team," head coach Steve Gachko said. "We rose to the occassion durng the big moments and stayed mentally tough throughout the match. Some key wins in singles today will pay dividends in building our confidence heading into the back half of our season."
 
At doubles, graduate student Keegan Morris and first-year Olof Persson fell 8-4 in the first position, but senior Marc Feliu and first-year Troy Zhang won 8-3 in line two and first-year Sebastian Wroe teamed with sophomore Aashi Kulakarni to win 8-4 at line three to send the Ducks into singles play with a 2-1 lead.
 
The Ducks kicked off singles play with a win. Sophomore Philip Szkudlarski earned his third victory of the season with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles. First-year Matt Luzzi won a three-set battle one line five by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-6. First-year Vivek Harinarayan (7-5, 6-4) and Kulakarni (6-1, 6-2) also picked up wins at third and fourth singles, respectively.
 
Up Next: Stevens return to the courts tomorrow, April 9, at 11 a.m., putting their perfect conference record on the line against Wilkes at home on the Stevens Tennis Courts. The Ducks have won all three meetings against the Colonels.
