ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Sunday as Stevens Institute of Technology bested the home team by a 2-0 score. It was a physical affair from the opening touch with the teams combining for four yellow cards and the decisive goal was scored in the second half.

Both teams felt each other out for the duration of the first half with each institution recording six shots each with Bombers' Josh Koenig goalkeeper tallying two saves.

The Ducks scored their first goal of the 2021 season in the 54th minute after tying SUNY Cortland in their season-opener. Adam Silva got behind the backline of IC and passed it to Christiano Hocken at the top of the box who bent his shot into the lower left corner of the goal. The opening goal fired up the Bombers who were by far the more dangerous team in the attacking third of the field especially after they went a man down in the 70th minute.

Ithaca came close to the equalizer at the 87:39 mark, but a Christopher Ogden shot attempt sailed wide right of the goal frame. In the 88th minute while on the counter attack Stevens added an insurance effort with Adam Silva placing the ball across the goalkeepers six-yard box that created a tap-in goal for Christiano Hocken.

Josh Koenig finished the game recording five saves for the Bombers. IC will look to return to its winning ways when they host the University of Scranton on Wednesday, September 8. Game time from Carp Wood Field is slated for 4:30 p.m.
