Man charged with 5 counts of rape
The man who was earlier taken in for questioning in relation to a separate cyber crime investigation, has now been charged for a separate case of rape in Namaka.
The accused has been charged with 5 counts of rape for allegedly raping a 13 year old girl in his home.
Police say the victim and her aunt were staying with the accused after he had allegedly told them that he would look after the victim's educational needs.
He committed the alleged offence on several different occasions.
The man will be produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
Meanwhile the man has alleged that he was paid by the National Federation Party and the suspended SODELPA for posting fake news on facebook pages like Fiji Exposed Forum.
NFP Leader, Professor Biman Prasad has confirmed that people like the person being questioned by Police had visited the offices of NFP and SODELPA around the 2018 general elections however he says the NFP made no payments for the work that he is alleged to have done.
When asked on how he knows that the man had also gone to SODELPA, Professor Prasad says he heard from sources in SODELPA that the same person was seen around the SODELPA office.
Prasad says the person had offered to help the party however the NFP Leader says he does not think that he acted in any official capacity for the NFP. He says NFP deals with people for social media work that are part of the party.
The NFP Leader says after the elections, their Western officials learned that the individual was a person wanted by Police.
Prasad also says that they do not know why this person has suddenly come to the attention of the Police now. He also says Police need to explain to the people of Fiji why on some wild allegation by one person, they believe they should raid the office of a political party.
The suspended SODELPA cannot make any public comments as they remain suspended.
That investigation is still underway.
