GENESEO — The Livingston County Office for the Aging is launching a new program to help older adults in the area learn new skills, save money, get in shape, and make new friends.

The OFA will, beginning in May, begin offering classes and workshops about technology, health and wellness, and socialization in partnership with Senior Planet, a national nonprofit which harnesses technology to change the way older Americans age.

“We feel very fortunate and excited to be partnering with Senior Planet and bringing these classes to Livingston County,” said Sue Carlock, director of the Livingston County Office for the Aging. “We plan to begin offering these workshops in May, which is also Older Americans Month.”

The first classes will be “All Things Zoom-Video Chat with Zoom,” “Online Shopping-Shopping on Amazon,” and the “Benefits of Connecting to the Internet-Finding Information Online.”

Senior Planet’s programs online and across the country help older adults build technology skills to improve their health, make new friendships, save money, advocate in their communities, and thrive in the digital world. Classes are free and organizers provide all classroom equipment necessary.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, older adults across the country began utilizing technology more than ever before. Through partnering with Senior Planet’s licensing program, the Office for the Aging will begin to offer Senior Planet’s proprietary curriculum to older adults in Livingston County.
