The United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) data breach, which compromised the personally identifiable information of more than 21.5 million individuals, is a defining moment for how to think about federal agency data collection and security. What lessons can federal agencies learn from one of the largest data hacks in US government history? The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee conducted a year-long investigation of the breach and will release a comprehensive report in conjunction with this event.

Join AEI for remarks from House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on the investigation’s findings and recommendations and the long-term cybersecurity implications of the 2014–15 OPM cyber attacks. Chairman Chaffetz will outline the timeline of the cyber attacks and subsequent reform efforts to strengthen federal agency data security, followed by a discussion with AEI’s Claude Barfield and Jeffrey Eisenach.
