Lakewood administration adds assistant principal, technology director
HEBRON ― The Lakewood Board of Education approved a pair of new administrators for the district recently at its August meeting.
Richard Cooper was named assistant principal at Lakewood High School, while Phil Jones approved as technology director for Lakewood Local Schools.
Cooper has been an assistant principal at Principal Local Schools since 2017, first at Toll Gate Middle School, then at Pickerington Central High School. At Pickerington, he oversaw administrative administrative systems, discipline, evaluation of staff, professional learning and technology integration.
Prior to Pickerington, he was assistant principal and athletic director at River Valley Schools from 2014-17, and was music department head and band director for Centerburg Local Schools from 2005-16.
"I'm excited to contribute my talents and proficiency in organization and cultural development to the Lakewood community," Cooper said in a press release. "I believe my qualifications, experiences and personal strengths will be an asset to the high school and district at large."
Jones comes to Lakewood from Northern Local Schools, where he was technology coordinator and director. While there, he modernized the entire network infrastructure, planned and managed the installation and implementation of many critical system, and implemented various remote learning and remote work solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to joining Northern Local, Jones was a private sector information technology manager and business owner.
"I believe my experience in the private sector for many years give me a unique perspective, being involved now in education administration on the technology side," Jones said in a press release. "I hope to positively impact Lakewood Schools' technology and media capabilities and offerings with that experience, and look forward to getting started."
