Albanian Prime Minister Warns Against Iranian Regime’s Illicit Activities
In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the Iranian regime’s plots against members of the Iranian opposition MEK who reside in Albania.
Prime Minister Rama told the General Assembly: “Albania is particularly concerned by Iran's destabilizing behavior in the Middle East but also often disruptive activities in relation to the Iranian opposition community who have generously been hosted in our country after having been subject to despicable massacres elsewhere.”
He added: “We had to react firmly to a number of Iran's illicit activities against our national security interests, and we stand firm on the side of the countries that have been hurt by such activities both on the sea and in their land.”
Trump Says He Refused to Lift Sanctions for an Iran Meeting
U.S. President Donald Trump said he had refused a request by the Iranian regime to lift sanctions in exchange for talks, contradicting the regime's President Hassan Rouhani, who earlier on Friday said the United States had offered to lift restrictions to facilitate a meeting.
Trump tweeted: “Iran wanted me to lift the sanctions imposed on them in order to meet. I said, of course, NO!”
U.S. Rejects Zarif Request to Visit Un Envoy in New York Unless Prisoner Released
The United States rejected a request by the Iranian Regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to visit the regime’s United Nations ambassador in a New York hospital where he is being treated for cancer, the U.S. State Department said on Friday.
The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on Zarif that severely limit where he can go in New York City.
“Iran has wrongfully detained several U.S. citizens for years, to the pain of their families and friends they cannot freely visit,” the State Department said. “We have relayed to the Iranian Mission that the travel request will be granted if Iran releases a U.S. citizen.”
Fake Website with Iranian Ties Targets US Veterans
Researchers have unmasked a website masquerading as a job site for U.S. veterans that may have ties to Iran's regime.
Researchers from security firm Cisco Talos reported this week that the website, Hire Military Heroes, was distributing malware that allows hackers to gain control of the victim’s computer.
An interesting twist is that the hackers may also be targeting active servicemen and not just veterans, according to ZDNet, which cites that the Iranian regime may be behind the attack.
A cybersecurity analyst from the Department of Homeland Security, speaking on background, told ZDNet that the attackers are aiming at military networks.
