IBM Launches Cybersecurity Hub for Asia-Pacific Region
BENGALURU, India — IBM is introducing a cybersecurity hub in India to help Asia-Pacific companies protect their data in the “most-targeted” region for cyber attacks.
IBM Security Command Center will help address the most “pressing need of the hour” for companies to accelerate their security strategies and align business priorities with a security-first approach, according to the company last month.
No region was targeted for cyber attacks more in 2021 than Asia (26%), according to a report by IBM Security. In the last decade, North America and Europe ranked as the most-targeted regions in the report.
The most-targeted industries for cyber attacks in Asia are the financial services and manufacturing sectors, the report says.
IBM Security Command Center is located at IBM offices at Embassy Golf Links in Bengaluru, India. The hub will offer training in cybersecurity response techniques through simulated cyber attacks, using audio and visual effects as well as live malware, ransomware, and other hacker tools. IBM designed the simulations after emergency and disaster response training models, in consultation with experts from industries, including emergency medical responders, active duty military officers, and its incident response experts.
The cybersecurity hub can deliver custom experiences and workshops, including virtually, through the IBM Cyber Range Design consulting team.
The hub includes a Security Operation Center (SOC), which is part of IBM’s network of global SOCs, providing 24/7 managed security services to clients. With capacity for 600 security response operators, IBM’s SOC combines human expertise with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and automation. It is the second IBM SOC in Bengaluru, with the other SOC continuing to serve customers in India.
IBM Security Command Center also features the company’s cybersecurity activities in the region: including IBM Managed Security Services and access to IBM’s team of incident response experts as well as IBM Consulting, IBM Research, IBM India Software Labs, and IBM Garage.
“Preparing for a cyber attack is like fire-drill training,” said Chris Hockings, IBM Security CTO for Asia Pacific.
“Everyone from executives through to contractors need to understand their own role in an emergency and reinforce the crucial response steps through practice.”
The hub is “enabled to train the entire business in the art of response to a cyber attack event,” Hockings said.
Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar — India’s honorable union minister of state for Electronics and Information Technology and union minister of state for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said he believes the IBM cybersecurity hub will “go a long way in creating an ecosystem of not just awareness, but also capabilities and talent in creating a safe cyberspace.”
