IT security

specialists report that Google has decided to suspend its business with the Chinese
company Huawei,
including activities of transfer of hardware, software and technical services
except for the open source projects. This decision comes after President Donald
Trump’s executive order, which prohibits American companies from trading technology
developed by foreign entities that may represent risks to U.S. national
security.

For now, this decision does not imply that
Huawei smartphone users will no longer receive support, as Google has confirmed
that updates for the apps developed by the company continue to be available for
download on Huawei devices. “Services like Google Play and Google Play
Protect will remain available to users of devices manufactured by the Chinese
company”, commented a Google spokesperson.

As for Huawei, the IT security audit specialists consider that this measure will be considerably detrimental in the business model of the company worldwide, because its developments would lose access to the updates of Android, operating system of Google. The next versions of Huawei smartphones would stop having the apps and services of the Google ecosystem, like YouTube and Gmail.

As reported in recent days, the government of
Donald Trump decided to include Huawei in a kind of trading “black
list”, establishing some restrictions that make it virtually impossible
for multiple foreign companies to do business with companies in the U.S.

Some sources close to the U.S. Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) mention that it is possible that, in the case of Huawei, some
restrictions may be reduced to ensure the correct functioning of some
implementations on existing networks in the U.S., although it is still unknown
whether this measure will extend to the operation of the company’s smartphones.

On the other hand, Huawei claims that it has
been developing a contingency plan for cases like this, which implies the
creation of its own technology (a new operating system), in addition, according
to IT security audit specialists, this technology has already been implemented
in some products in the Asian market.

Experts from the International Institute of
Cyber Security (IICS) say that this decision does not affect business
expectations of Huawei in the Chinese market because, as is well known, Google
applications are banned in this country and only there are some alternative
applications created by Chinese government-approved developers, such as company
Tencent.
