To install Kali Linux 2020.1 with VMware:

Step 1: If you have not installed VMware Pro virtualization software on your Windows computer before, you can check out the video or article below.

Step 2: After installing the VMware program, if you want to install a Linux distribution like a Kali, you can either install a new system with an image file or import it to the VM you will create by downloading the VMDK file of the Linux distribution.

Step 3: We always recommend installing a Kali OS from scratch. So open VMware Pro now and click on Create a New Virtual Machine.

Step 4: In the Wizard window that opens, select the Custom (advanced) option and continue with Next.

Step 5: In the VMware Hardware Compatibility window, continue with the Workstation 15.x option selected by default.

Step 6: Since it is healthier to create a new virtual machine first and add the ISO file later, check the I will install the operating system later option in the next window and continue the installation.

Step 7: In the Select a Guest Operating System window, you have to make a selection based on the Kernel version of the Kali system you will install. In some installation guides, those who tell you to choose Ubuntu, give you the wrong information. Since the latest version of Kali includes Kernel 5.4.0, select "Other Linux 5.x or later kernel 64-bit" in this window and continue.

Step 8: In the Name the Virtual Machine window, after typing a name for the kali virtual machine, in the Location section, select the location where you want to store it.

Extra information: Running a virtual machine on an external SSD portable is very performance.

Step 9: Assign 1 processor / 4 cores to the Kali machine for faster installation.

Step 10: In the Memory for the Virtual Machine window, select the 4 GB option for the RAM of the VM.

Step 11: In the Network Type window, check Use Network Address Translation (NAT) and click Next.

Step 12: In the Select I/O Controller Types window, check the LSI Logic selected by default and then continue with Next.

Step 13: In the Select a Disk Type window, leave the default option (SCSI).

Step 14: In the Select a Disk window, select the Create a new virtual disk option. If you have a VMDK file, you must select Use an existing virtual disk to import the file in this window.

Step 15: In the Specify Disk Capacity window, do not check the Allocate all disk space now option to configure a dynamically expanding disk! Just select the Store virtual disk as a single file and continue for the virtual disk to grow as one piece.

Step 16: In the Ready to Create Virtual Machine window, if there is finally a setting you want to configure for the Linux machine, you can click Customize Hardware. Now, click on that button and select Processors, and then select the Intel VT-x / EPT and CPU Performance Counters options in the Virtualization Engine area, then remove the Printer from the devices.

Step 17: After creating the virtual computer, add the Kali ISO file to the CD / DVD (SATA) device and click OK to save the setting.

Step 18: Now run the Linux VM on VMware and start the installation.

Step 19: Watch the entire video to install a Kali operating system from scratch!
