Haryana gang involved in hacking IAF’s online exam busted, 8 held
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested eight persons for hacking the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) online exam to recruit non-commissioned officers.
The police said five of the arrested persons were sent to judicial custody, while two others were remanded in police custody. One of them is undergoing treatment at a hospital as he got hurt while trying to jump off a building during the police raid.
“They claimed that more than 100 candidates have cleared the IAF online exam with their help,” an officer said.
The police said they got a tip-off about a gang operating in Haryana where they hacked computers during the IAF exam and helped aspirants answer the paper. They charged around ₹5lakh-₹8 lakh per candidate.
Raid in Bhiwani
“A raid was conducted at the third floor of a house in Bhiwani when the gang members were helping aspirants appearing for Group X and Y services of the Air Force. They were caught red-handed solving the exam papers through remote access,” said the officer.
A total of eight persons were held during the raid while two managed to escape. During the raid, the aspirants were taking the exam at a centre in Jaipur, said the police.
“We have arrested the kingpin of the gang — Naresh. He is a graduate and was a teacher at an institute for competitive exams. He appeared for UPSC examination but after being unsuccessful, he took to teaching,” said a police officer.
He started working at a compute centre in Chandigarh that was authorised to conduct IAF online examination. During the period, he got to know about the loopholes in the system. Naresh formed a gang of 10, including a person who could solve the questions, a hacker and middlemen, said the police.
“They used to hunt targets from coaching centres and ‘prepare’ them to remotely access their computer system,” added the officer.
Delhi Police has informed the Indian Airforce about the matter.
