Rockwall business and government leaders gathered Wednesday morning for the official groundbreaking of Phase III of the Rockwall Technology Park.
The ceremony was conducted at the corner of Springer Road and Data Drive and marked the start of development of 210 acres of the 550 total acres of the park and was attended by officials with the Rockwall Economic Development Corp. and the City of Rockwall. No tenants were immediately announced Wednesday for Phase III of the park.
The groundbreaking was the second big event from the Rockwall EDC in recent weeks. In late July, the agency announced that Chewters Chocolates, a Canadian-based chocolate manufacturer and makers of the popular brand ChocXO, would build a new facility in Phase II of the Technology Park.
Chewters plans to develop a 189,000-square-foot facility on 10.6 acres.
Three years ago, Interstate Wire Company announced it was relocating its manufacturing, distribution, and corporate office operations to Rockwall and built a 243,000 square foot facility on 11 acres in Phase 1 of the park.
Other major companies that have become part of the park include Bimbo Bakeries USA, Karat By Lollocup/Atosa USA and Pratt Industries.
