With the advancement in technology where digital privacy is turning out to be a false notion, hackers are ranging over ingenious ideas to intrude in to user’s accounts & steal their private data.
We all are well acquainted with spam mails that carry malevolent content. A mere click on these phishing scam e-mails can open up sensitive information of the users to the hackers. But now the users need to stay vigilant against the new phishing tools for hackers, the Google Translate phishing hack.
A recent report by ZDNet revealed that Google Translate is the new tool in the hands of the hackers to phish into user’s accounts& steal sensitive information.
Though the information is hard for many of the users to digest, the hackers are furtively using a flaw created in Google Translate & there are positives that the users might fall in to the trap!
According to the report, the hackers are targeting phishing attack by sending phishing mails via a fake URL of a website page by Google Translate.

This fake URL is then put inside the phishing mail, replacing the website links of popular social media platforms like Netflix & Facebook.
The report further suggests that an accidental click on the links inside the phishing e-mails redirects the users to Google Translate portal. This is where the phishing page loads with the systematic Google Translate toolbar at the top of the page & takes the user into thinking that they are being redirected to the legitimate site.
Users are advised not to click on such suspicious links as clicking these links might make you end up sharing sensitive information of your social media accounts & bank accounts with the cyber frauds.
Desktop users might be able to exonerate the trap, with signs of a fake link displaying near the URL. However, the mobile users might face difficulty in discerning the nature of the mail.
Therefore, the next time you get a Google Translate URL, ensure that you access it on desktop rather than opening it on mobile, in order to avoid getting phished.
In response to the incident, Google has blocked certain malicious links that are carrying out this phishing scam. In addition to that it has asked the users to complain about pernicious links & these will then be removed from Google Translate.
