Which Apple Watch is best?

It’s hard to pick the right model when so many are on sale and the prices vary so wildly, so let’s quickly go over the differences between the various models.

The first thing to note is that all Apple watches included in Amazon’s discounts are swim proof, with wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. They’re also equipped with an accelerometer and gyroscope for motion tracking, a heart monitor, plus internal storage for installing apps, as well as GPS positioning. However, GPS-only models must be tethered to an iOS device in order to track movement, receive push notifications, and read messages—meaning you’ll need to carry your iPhone with you in order to use it, even during workouts.

The cellular models, on the other hand, still have GPS tracking but do not require tethering and can be worn as a standalone wearable device (though you can still pair it with your phone via Bluetooth), and some models even support Apple Music streaming. The catch is that cellular Apple Watches are more expensive, and require a data plan, whereas GPS-only models do not.

There are also differences between Series 3 and Series 4 watches. Series 4 models have bigger watch faces and screens but thinner cases and much faster processors than series 3. And while both series have optical heart sensors and digital crown controls, Series 4 has an additional electrical heart sensor, automatic fall detection, and it’s digital crown control have been upgraded with haptic feedback.

We’d recommend going the 4 route—it’s just a better device all around, and is much better suited for fitness tracking. That said, if you’re trying to save money or want a simpler wearable, go for the GPS-only Series 3, which Amazon is offering at an all-time-low price of $200 during the sale. You’ll also notice that some colors or band types are being sold at different prices than others even within the same category—this is usually due to the materials the watch or its band are made out of, rather than differences in features.
