Facebook Releases Data That Could
Help Predict Spread of COVID-19 According to CNET, the social
media giant is providing researchers
with location data to determine
if people are staying home. The data, which Facebook says doesn't identify
individual users, may also help researchers figure
out where the coronavirus will spread next. As part of its Data for Good program,
Facebook released three new types
of disease prevention maps. One map details the
probability of one area
of people coming in
contact with another
area of people. A second map
shows if people are
staying home in
certain regions. The third map shows
if people have friends
across state lines or
in other countries. Facebook is also helping Carnegie Mellon University
Delphi Research Center to collect COVID-19 data
by asking its users to participate in a short survey.
