Yes, file-less malware attacks, sometimes also known as zero footprint attacks are a real thing.
They are malware attacks that don’t involve the attackers needing to install software on a victim’s machine. Instead, file-less malware attacks are based on an attacker taking control of something already installed on the machine, commonly default Windows tools, in particular PowerShell, and using these tools for malicious activity.
