Edmond Introduces New Technology That Seeks To Improve Emergency Response

EDMOND, Oklahoma -
Dispatchers in Edmond want to help give residents a quicker and easier access to emergency services. They’ve launched a new technology called “What3Words.”
“What3Words” is an app that has “mapped the entire earth down to 10’ x 10’ squares and has assigned a combination of three words to each specific square.”
They said the 3-word combination is a simpler way for the public to convey their location to responders when they aren’t sure exactly where they are.
Right now, most callers must physically describe their surroundings or try to share latitude and longitude coordinates.
