New computer security company Trellix expects to achieve 30% annual growth in sales in Latin America.

Trellix, the result of the merger between FireEye and McAfee, aims to position itself in the market with its XDR (extended detection and response) solutions.

“Combining the two portfolios, we have all the necessary elements. We're positioning the best features of the McAfee endpoint with the FireEye endpoint. We cover the email, network and cloud vectors and, beyond that, it allows us to deliver an XDR solution that the competition really can't do," Ryan Goss, Trellix vice president for Latin America & the Caribbean, told BNamericas.

The executive said that Trellix has more than a billion sensors worldwide doing telemetry that, combined with machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions, allow real-time context and perspective of threats.

“An average client has between 20 and 40 different cybersecurity solutions and the problems they have are bandwidth and they can't make sense of everything they have in order to react effectively. That's the value that we are giving them,” he added.

The Trellix platform is capable of integrating with 650 cybersecurity solutions. According to Goss, the platform allows companies to "do more with less."

The company has a presence in the region mainly through business partners. "We have the great challenge that the channels that have worked with us in the past continue to do so with Trellix," he said.

Trellix's business partners include Nastec, Telefónica, Sonda, Novared, Widefense, Entel, Coasin Logicalis, Hiway and ISecurity. It works with financial industries, federal and state governments, airlines, mining, retail, manufacturing and healthcare companies, among others.

The firm has offices in Colombia and Brazil. It is in the process of defining a presence with physical offices in new countries in the region. "For now we continue with what we currently have and with a presence through our business partners," said Goss.

In addition to Colombia and Brazil, the company has operations in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Guatemala, among others.

THE SITUATION IN LATIN AMERICA

In the last two years, the number of attacks on Latin American companies has multiplied. Goss pointed out that not only have the number of attacks increased, but they are now targeting not only large companies, but also small and medium-sized firms, which are not always prepared to respond.

According to data published in April by another security company, Fortinet, 70% of companies in Latin America revealed they have suffered between one and four security breaches in the last 12 months. Some 17% said they had had more than five, costing their businesses up to US$1mn in the case of 37% of respondents and more than US$1mn for 26% of respondents.

In addition, there is a lack of cybersecurity professionals both globally and in Latin America. Goss estimates that there are close to a million open positions around the world, while in Latin America alone there is a deficit of over 700,000 cybersecurity professionals, according to the 2021 Cyber Workforce Report.
