Computer Hack Affects County – Ste. Genevieve Herald

TTS

Ste. Genevieve County officials announced last week that the county had been “the victim of a malicious cyber attack” that has affected multiple offices in the courthouse.
County Clerk Sue Wolk confirmed the cyber attack was first noticed on May 26 and affected the offices of the assessor, collector, clerk, recorder of deeds and treasurer.
“The county has no information to indicate that any taxpayer or employee information was taken,” a release from the County Clerk’s Office stated. “The county had industry-standard protections in place and immediately took action when the attack was discovered. The county was advised not to disclose the complete nature of the attack until the county’s systems and data can be fully restored and the investigation is complete.”
The release said an investigation, which includes the assistance of outside experts, is ongoing.
The county was working to get systems restored.
“We hope residents will be patient with the county as we get business back to normal,” the release said.
