6G,China aims higher!

China is progressing in developing 6G technology, which is expected to be commercially available around 2030, with the future 6G business showing immersive, intelligent and universal trends, according to a white paper released by an industry group on Sunday.

The white paper addresses an overall vision, eight business application scenarios, ten potential key technologies of 6G, and views regarding the future development of 6G, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT)'s IMT-2030 6G promotion group.

According to the white paper, future 6G services will show three major new development trends of immersive, intelligent and universal, and eight business application scenarios including immersive cloud XR, holographic communication, sensory interconnection, intelligent interactive communication, communication awareness, benefiting universally adopted smart technologies, digital twin, and global coverage.

Immersive services can be widely applied in fields such as entertainment, medical care, health and industrial production to support the digital transformation and upgrading of different industries.

Intelligent services which involve communication awareness, benefiting universally adopted smart technologies, digital twin will help complete the digitization of the physical world and promote human beings into the virtual digital twin world.

The global coverage service will provide more universal service capabilities to help the sustainable development of the human society by relying on 6G to build an integrated global network which will eliminate blind spots that cannot connect to mobile networks.

The white paper also lists out ten key potential technologies for the future development of 6G technology, which will greatly improve the network performance, meet the needs of new businesses and new scenarios for the future social development, said the CAICT.

IMT-2030 6G promotion group was formed in June, 2019, led by CAICT and under the guidance of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The promotion group already has 59 member units, including operators, equipment manufacturing companies, terminal enterprises, universities and research institutions, Xinhua Finance reported on Sunday.
