Charter school in Makiki left reeling after rare instrument, technology stolen
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu charter school is left reeling after someone stole musical instruments and tech equipment for the second time in a year.
The burglary happened overnight Tuesday at the Halau Ku Mana campus in Makiki Heights.
The school said someone stole multiple Apple laptops, a multi-track mixer and a rare, vintage guitar.
The suspect also smashed a window on the school’s solar-powered mobile studio. This is the same studio that had its batteries stolen in the first burglary.
“So everything that the students have done, all their hard work that’s on the computer, it’s not just our on-camera personalities, they’re all suffering,” said Candy Diaz, a music teacher.
“It does put us back from being able to accomplish things for the students because they’ll need to fix that window in order to be able to bring it around and make it workable and finish recording projects for different partner schools that we work with using the mobile studio.”
