CES 2022, the return of the most important technology fair

Although the omicron variant threatened the possible cancellation of the most important technological event of the year, and even forced its duration to be reduced one day, finally the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, will be held in Las Vegas, a fair that marks a new beginning for the realization of massive conventions in the United States and the world.

The last time this show was held with an audience was in 2020, just before the start of the pandemic. And although this edition will be lived differently, this taking into account the strict biosafety protocols that attendees must follow, this will be a great moment for brands, eager to show their news, and for technology fans who waited two years to live this moment.

Missing brands

Despite the efforts of the organization, the speed of omicron spread made some companies give up attending the convention physically. Among the most important are Amazon, Intel, Meta, Microsoft and Google.

It is estimated that about 2,200 exhibitors will be present in Las Vegas, 50% of the capacity before the pandemic, so a new digital version (the 2021 edition was totally virtual) will also take place.

COVID requirements

Between January 5 and 7, the nearly 5,500 CES attendees, including exhibitors and members of the press, must wear face masks and carry their vaccination certificate. Likewise, self-diagnostic kits will be available at all time.

Automotive industry

Among the many expectations that this new edition of the CES has generated, several of them focus on the novelties that will be presented by the different brands dedicated to the manufacture of means of transportation.

In addition to vehicles, new generations of electric bicycles and scooters will be promoted, as well as an airplane used to carry supplies to the International Space Station.

Laying the foundations for a regulatory framework

Among the most striking events of the CES are the long-awaited debates on the challenges facing the technology sector in relation to the policies of the countries, as well as the threats posed by the increasing cyber attacks around the world.

The regulation of cyber currencies also becomes the center of attention, and the presence of representatives of the United States government is expected to promote responsible management of this type of emerging technologies.

Other points of interest

The rise of NFTs, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, virtual and augmented reality, are other areas of interest at this fair, but without a doubt the future metaverse (not so far away) steals the interest of attendees with the possibility of recreating a version of themselves in 3D to explore the internet and interact with it through their avatars.

Health technology

How could it be otherwise in the midst of a pandemic, health technology will have an important space in this new edition of CES.

From mobile apps offering coronavirus testing at home, to new innovations that promise to take telemedicine to the next level, digital health will undoubtedly be the protagonist at this convention. Proof of this is the prominent, first-of-its-kind keynote address from the healthcare products and services company Abbot.
