Casper Foam Pillow With Snow Technology Is Cool, Just Not Chilly

The best thing I can say about the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology is that it's forgettable. While that may seem dismissive, it's actually strong praise for a pillow. In this case, I didn't find it disruptive or uncomfortable. I slept well, right from night one, using the company's latest iteration of its foam pillow.

The new Snow Technology feature is a $50 add-on to the company's regularly priced $89 Foam Pillow. Casper took its foam pillow and added what it calls HeatDelete Bands to get its Snow Technology.

Foam typically gets warmer than other materials, so it makes sense that the company would want to find a way to chill the foam pillow beyond the steps it has already taken. But, the question remains, Does this pillow with Snow Technology provide an arctic freeze?

Does Snow Technology Keep You Cool?

Let's get to the questions at the heart of the matter. How does this pillow feel to sleep on? Is it cooler than other foam pillows? Does Snow Technology make it too cold?

After sleeping on the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology for more than a week, I can say it doesn't feel cooler to me than any other pillow I've used recently. I have another foam pillow from Tuft and Needle that I've slept on for years. I never found it to get uncomfortably warm.

I also have been using a Marlow Pillow from Brooklinen, and my head didn't get warm sleeping on it. The Marlow has foam components inside, but it isn't a "foam pillow" per se. I found it to be the coolest of the three.

Caspar's Snow Technology may make the company's regular foam pillow sleep cooler, but compared to a few other competitors, I didn't notice a meaningful difference in temperature. It performs well, just not unbelievably so.

But what I appreciate about the pillow, besides its not getting too warm, is its comfort.

Casper Foam Pillow Comfort

Pillows, in general, seem to be getting much better because the last few I've tried have been easy to acclimate to. This makes sense though, because companies are putting a lot more research into all aspects of sleeping, from its sheets and mattresses to its pillows.

My personal preference is a soft pillow that has some substance to it. The hotel pillows you encounter every once in a while that are big and fluffy but let your head sink all the way to the bed are no good, in my opinion. I want there to be some rigidity to the place I lay my head.

I mostly found what I'm looking for in Casper's Foam Pillow with Snow Technology. It provides a little squishiness, which is common with foam. Unlike bulkier foam pillows, however, this one is pretty thin. So it does offer more firmness than my foam pillow from Tuft and Needle, for instance.

The firmness will be a personal preference, but I think the Casper mostly finds the right balance. There were a few mornings it began to feel a little hard as I lay there debating whether it was time to get up or not. I tended to notice the firmness more while sleeping on my side. The pillow felt more neutral when I was laying on my back.

I had my wife try the pillow for a night because she prefers thinner pillows. She reported back very similar results to mine. The pillow itself is comfortable and easy to get acclimated to. Her head didn't get warm, but she also didn't notice any deep cooling effects.

Should You Buy the Casper Foam Pillow With Snow Technology?

Casper has been making solid products since I reviewed its first mattress back in 2014, and it still is. I like the Foam Pillow with Snow Technology—it's an all-around good pillow. I like the Foam Pillow with Snow Technology, it's a good pillow. After sleep testing it for more than a week, however, I'm not quite sure how much the Snow Technology is achieving. To me, it seems like it does what every other pillow also advertises: to stay cool throughout the night. Nothing more.

If you're looking for a thin foam pillow that works for sleeping on your side or on your back, the Casper Foam Pillow is a solid choice. If you tend to get hot during the night and are worried about foam, go ahead and check the Snow Technology box on the way to checkout. Otherwise, if you're less concerned about the heat, you should be OK without it.
