In partnership with MassHire Department of Career Services, MassMEP and Flexo Concepts, Carver Public Schools will host the first Manufacturing Engineering and Technology (MET) Student Showcase for southeastern Massachusetts from 3-5 p.m. May 5, at Carver Middle High School, 60 South Meadow Road, Carver.

The Carver MET program is an Innovation Pathway as designated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As the only advanced manufacturing designee on the South Shore, this Innovation Pathway aims to prepare students for the regional workforce or post-secondary schooling. The MET Innovation Pathway provides broad industry exploration, along with technical and advanced coursework, as well as focusing on employability skills, industry credentials, and application of technical skills that support career pipelines.

The program provides students with opportunities to develop highly marketable skills including: Computer Aided Design, CNC Milling, Programming (including Python), Design Engineering, and Robotics. Additionally students will leave with their OnShape Associates and OSHA 10 certifications.

Carver is looking to expand its program partnerships. At the event, Carver plans to welcome more than 30 representatives from the Engineering & Manufacturing sector to visit the campus. Company leaders will meet students, learn more about the Pathways program and explore partnership opportunities ranging from a program advisory capacity to mentorship, internships and externships.

Carver Middle High School recently launched additional pathways in other broad industry areas to prepare students for future-focused college and career readiness. Each unique pathway is designed to give students opportunities to develop skills across a wide range of growing sectors across the economy through real-world applications and project-based learning.

Meredith Erickson, director of curriculum, instruction, and technology notes that within these Pathways “Learning comes alive for students as they engage in solving real world problems that can better their lives, the community, and the region.”
