Canva users urged to change passwords after major cyber attack Prolific London
Popular graphic design tool Canva has encouraged its users to change their passwords following a cyber attack that affected as many as 139 million users.
The attack, which occured on Friday, is thought to have targeted usernames, email addresses, and passwords, although Canva says passwords were encrypted and will not be readable by a third party.
The company maintains that credit card details were not breached, and that there is no evidence to suggest that users' design projects were visible to the attackers.
Canva's free graphic design tools have become popular amongst marketers. Its drag-and-drop functionality has made it an especially attractive option for small teams that do not have in-house graphic design support.
Earlier this month the company acquired Pexels and Pixabay, the world's largest free stock image sites.
Canva said the move will lead to one million additional free images being made available on its platform, highlighting its focus on small marketing teams and microbusinesses.
Commenting at the time of the acquisitions, Canva CEO and co-founder Melanie Perkins said: “We believe everyone should have access to great design ingredients for their visuals; this is why free content will always play a central role in Canva’s vision of democratizing design.
"Together with Pexels and Pixabay, we’ll be able to help people discover a whole new world of amazing, fresh content. With over 1 million images downloaded over 500 million times on their platforms combined, both Pexels and Pixabay have proven that there is a huge demand for free, quality content from small businesses, social media marketers and others — not just from designers and companies with big budgets.”
