New technology came in handy for Bullitt County sheriff's deputies when an hours-long search for a young woman lost in the woods was unsuccessful. Bullitt County Sheriff Walt Sholar said the woman's family thought she was in a wooded area, which was nearly 20 acres.Enough acres that even after spending hours looking for the young woman on foot early Friday morning, Sholar says her family had to call for help. That's when one of the department's detectives showed up around 6:45 a.m. with a drone that just purchased on Tuesday. It was also equipped with thermal imaging and GPS.The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office says that is what helped find that young woman."Within about 15 minutes he found what looked to be the outline of a human person," Sholar said. That outline ended up being the woman they were looking for."The Shepherdsville police and Shepherdsville Fire Department was able to walk right in and found this young lady who was incapacitated," Sholar said. "They were able to get her up and get her to medical attention."Sholar says she is doing OK and her family is relieved, but explains why this is just another example of why the drone is such an important tool, especially for this county."Anytime we have a lost child, anytime we have somebody lost at Bernheim Forest, anytime we have someone who might want to do themselves harm and we have to search for them," Sholar said. They now have life-saving technology that provides a birds-eye view."The technology is just tremendously helpful," Sholar said. "It's almost unbelievable how much we have come forward and the tools that we have to assist us in caring for the people of our community."
