Brazilian Service Members Train with Israeli Company in Cybersecurity
In late March, the Brazilian Army (EB) signed a cooperation agreement with CySource, a cybersecurity company founded by Israeli Defense Forces veterans, to train military personnel. The training will include attack simulation for risk prevention and mitigation and threat monitoring, harmful software analysis, network fundamentals, cyber incident responses, digital forensics, and penetration testing of critical systems. The partnership with EB will last one year and may be renewed.
EB General Heber Garcia Portela, commander of the Brazilian Cyber Defense Command (ComDCiber), and CySource CEO Amir Bar-El announced the agreement. The ComDCiber is composed of military personnel from the Brazilian Navy, EB, and the Brazilian Air Force, but is part of the EB structure. As such, although EB signed the contract, service members from all three forces will benefit from it.
The ComDCiber’s mission is to plan, guide, coordinate, integrate, and execute activities related to the development and application of cyber capabilities, as the central body of the Military Cyber Defense System, in order to contribute to the effective use of cyberspace, preventing or hindering its use against National Defense interests.
“Over the past few years, we have established cybersecurity academies for various military organizations and security units around the world, which has allowed us to consolidate strategic knowledge in cyber defense. And now, it will be a great satisfaction to be able to contribute to the advancement of cybersecurity in the Brazilian Army,” Amir Bar-El said.
“These are two complete tracks: offensive cybersecurity and defensive cybersecurity. Each track has its structure, its focus, according to the need, and compatibility with the area of performance. They are Professional Pen test [testing for cyberattacks] and Cyber Incident Response,” Luiz Katzap, Global Sales director at CySource, told Diálogo.
The training, according to the sales director, is designed to upskill service members from zero to advanced level. “It was left to the Armed Forces to decide how to allocate the training according to their demands and needs,” he added.
CySource has acquired experience over the years, developing projects, “both in the civilian sector, for individuals, and for companies, for those who want to migrate into the area, and also for those who already have prior knowledge and would like to enhance them, learning advanced techniques used by our internationally recognized Israeli experts, and for government agencies and institutions around the world, such as intelligence units, police, armies, etc.,” Katzap said.
