Booz Allen Hamilton has acquired Tracepoint, a Fredericksburg, VA-based consulting firm specializing in digital forensics and incident response (DFIR).

Tracepoint was founded in 2019 and has more than 80 employees across eight US offices, according to LinkedIn. The firm’s professionals have backgrounds working in government, the Big Four accountancies, and technology consulting.

Tracepoint specializes in advising insurers, lawyers, brokers, and their clients on digital forensics and incident response, ransomware settlement & recovery, and on-site recovery & remediation. The firm also provides active defense services, including assessments, technical testing, security program development, training, and managed security services.

Booz Allen’s acquisition of the firm arrives after an initial strategic investment in Tracepoint in January 2021. The deal is part of a wider strategy to accelerate Booz Allen’s entry into “critical technology areas,” according to a release from the McLean, VA-based technology consultancy. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We see strong demand and a clear opportunity as organizations and governments around the globe face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and believe this is the right time for us to further elevate our incident response capabilities and talent; this transaction aligns with that strategic approach,” said Horacio Rozanski, Booz Allen president and CEO.

Booz Allen aims to integrate Tracepoint into its commercial cyber business in early 2022. The firm has a long-term growth plan to scale the business' offerings in incident response, enterprise consulting, and managed services.

“Booz Allen has decades of experience working across the most significant breaches and clients and will provide strong foundations from which we can continue to grow and expand our business,” said Chris Salsberry, CEO of Tracepoint. “We are thrilled to enter the market together as partners.”

Booz Allen has more than 28,600 people globally, with approximately 10,000 located in Virginia.

The firm, which advises military, government, and commercial clients on digital and technology issues, earlier this year acquired Liberty IT Solutions, a Herndon, VA-headquartered IT consultancy specializing in federal government clients.
