Bobcat fire won’t be fully contained for a month
Firefighters on Tuesday, Sept. 29, continued to keep the Bobcat fire at bay, with authorities now expecting to fully contain the stubborn blaze by Oct. 30. Firefighters are building more containment lines, said Andrew Mitchell, a spokesman for the U. S. Forest Service, adding that firefighters on Monday made sure the Bobcat stayed in its footprint. Authorities had estimated 100 percent containment by Wednesday, Sept. 30, but the fire that has eaten up an estimated 114, 202 acres was only 62% contained on Monday night. It just wasn’t possible to have the Bobcat, which has burned in the Angeles National Forest and elsewhere, fully contained by Wednesday, Mitchell said.“Better to overestimate than underestimate, ” he said. On Tuesday, authorities lifted the evacuation warning for Wrightwood in San Bernardino County. A smoke advisory issued Monday by the South Coast Air Quality Management District remained in effect Tuesday for the San Gabriel Valley and the San Gabriel Mountains.
