Blizzard announced Diablo 2 Resurrected at BlizzConline

Diablo 2 Resurrected will be a faithful remaster of Diablo 2 and its expansion, Lord of Destruction. Blizzard announced Resurrected in the closing moments of its BlizzConline opening ceremony on Friday.

Blizzard will release Diablo 2 Resurrected on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this year. A “technical alpha” for PC coming soon.

Diablo 2 Resurrected takes Diablo 2’s 2D sprites and paints over them with fully 3D-rendered models. The game’s new graphics can display in up to 4K resolution, but players can also toggle back to the original “nostalgic” graphics by pressing a button. Blizzard also promises 7.1 Dolby Surround support and 27 minutes of remastered cutscenes for Resurrected.

All seven classes and the game’s roster of memorable bosses will return. Blizzard didn’t change any of the game’s itemization or balance, meaning Diablo 2 should feel as replayable as it did 20 years ago — albeit with a new coat of paint and a much more stable internet at your fingertips.

Blizzard will dive deeper into Diablo 2 Resurrected’s new features over the course of BlizzConline.

Diablo 2 Resurrected features cross-progression for saves and will run players $39.99 later this year.
