Balanced Attack Sends Women’s Basketball Over Wilkes
WILKES-BARRE, N.J. (January 15, 2022) – Thirteen different players scored as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Wilkes University 76-51 Saturday in a MAC Freedom matchup at the Marts Center.
Senior Allie Moss had 14 points and six assists in just 22 minutes to lead the Ducks, who led wire to wire in winning their fourth straight to improve to 11-2 on the year and to 5-1 in conference play.
Jordyn Jennings came off the bench to lead Wilkes with 14 points and Erin Shober added 10 for the Colonels, who fell to 4-9 on the year and to 2-4 in the MAC Freedom. Wilkes has dropped three straight on the year, while also falling to 0-3 all-time against the Ducks.
It was an especially hot start for the Ducks that created early separation between the teams. After winning the tip, senior Jess Broad hit a long jumper to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Stevens would race out to a 10-0 lead, converting a pair of second-chance baskets, before Wilkes finally broke through midway through the opening quarter.
The Ducks would finish the opening quarter shooting 47% from the field (10 for 21), including 3 for 7 from behind the arc, to outscore the Colonels 24-11 over the first 10 minutes. The Ducks' 24-point output matched a season high for points in a quarter, matching the team's second-quarter output at Susquehanna in the season opener.
After allowing just four field goals to Wilkes in the opening stanza, the Ducks continued to put the squeeze on the Colonels' offense in the second quarter, allowing Wilkes to convert just two of its 15 attempts from the floor.
The Ducks would open as much as a 27-point lead in the third quarter, while continuing to keep the Wilkes offense at bay. Stevens held Katelyn Kinczel, the Colonels' leading scorer, to just five points on 1 for 9 shooting. Stevens finished 32 for 71 from the field (45.1%), while making a season-high nine threes.

- The Ducks scored on five of their first seven possessions to grab a 10-0 lead midway through the first period. The early offense provided the Ducks with a lead they'd never relinquish.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks grabbed a season-high 53 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end. Wilkes had 32 boards. Senior Meghan Douglas grabbed eight boards and junior Danielle Cornetta snagged four offensive boards to lead both teams.
- Stevens used its prowess on the offensive glass to finish with a 14-5 advantage in second-chance points.
- Moss sank a season-high four threes.
- The Ducks forced 24 turnovers for the fifth time this season.
- The Ducks totaled 24 assists on 32 baskets.
- Broad blocked a game-high four shots.
- Sophomore Caitlin Barry recorded her first points of the season, while classmate Riley Sikorski and first-year Mikayla Rutgers netted their first career points.
- Moss' six helpers came against only one turnover. The Raleigh, North Carolina native ranks second in the conference with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Unsung Hero
- Senior Amber Porrett pulled down seven rebounds in just 14 minutes. The Dumont, New Jersey native also made both of her attempts from the field.
