A man was reportedly fatally shot at a Nevada security site.

A man who reportedly entered the Nevada National Security Site, led authorities on a chase, then emerged from his vehicle with a "cylindrical object" in hand, was fatally shot.  The area where the January 28 incident occurred is used for nuclear weapon assembly and is run by the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration, notes The Drive. A report from that entity states that the incident began at 5:18 p.m. when "an unidentified male failed to stop at the NNSS security gate at Mercury, Nevada."  Both site security officers and personnel with the Nye County Sheriff's Department pursued him for roughly eight miles before he stopped, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He reportedly ignored verbal commands and began to make his way toward the authorities, prompting them to open fire.  The NNSA report does not provide information on what the cylindrical object was, nor does it reveal the fatally wounded man's identity or purpose for being at the secure site.
