Apple opens its Bug bounty program for all

Until now Apple has run its bug-finding program by invitation only – so not everyone could enter the program and expect to be rewarded for finding vulnerabilities. This is about to change.

Apple has finally decided to open its debugging program to everyone. The earlier approach to various researchers was criticized as a threat because there might be people who are not interested in rewards but would simply sell their discoveries to governments or other private companies. These, in turn, could then put pressure on Apple to create “back doors”.

Now that the program is open to everyone, it will no longer matter. In fact, Apple is offering up to $1 million to help find the most serious bugs in its software. The company also said that its priority is to find bugs quickly in order to protect consumers in the best possible way. That’s why the prizes are paid out quickly.
