-named Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle was the first sports venue to feature a combination of Amazon One technology with Just Walk Out technology in 2021. And now the Seattle home of the NHL's Kraken offers up another first: the first sports venue to use Amazon One outside of Just Walk Out-enabled stores.

Amazon's palm recognition and payment service Amazon One had joined the company's Just Walk Out technology—where customers could swipe a credit card upon entry into a store and then grab their chosen items and walk out without stopping at a checkout line—in a handful of sports locations in Seattle and around the country. The expansion of the Amazon One technology as a standalone payment option allows fans to pay with their palm at some of the regular concession areas within the venue.

"It's an easy decision for us to support technology solutions that guests love and find easy to use," says Jeff Wilkinson, Climate Pledge Arena concessionaire Delaware North's chief information officer. "With four Just Walk Out technology-enabled stores and Amazon One at a combined seven areas, Climate Pledge Arena is quickly becoming a hub for tech-savvy fans, and we're thrilled to help enable a seamless payment experience for them with this latest expansion."

The Just Walk Out technology exists outside of sports, but is becoming more prevalent within the stadium world, along with competitors such as Zippin, which is now in 30% of professional sports venues. Amazon already has Just Walk Out locations in Seattle's three professional sports venues (Climate Pledge Arena, Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park), along with UBS Arena in New York, TD Garden in Boston, Texas A&M's Kyle Field, Minute Maid Park in Houston, Chicago's United Center, Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The Amazon One technology is currently at all three Seattle venues, along with Kyle Field in College Station, Texas. Seattle's Lumen Field became the NFL's first to use Just Walk Out or Amazon One technology when it was added to the venue ahead of the 2022 NFL season.

To use the update service at Climate Pledge Arena, fans need to opt-in to the Amazon One technology, linking their credit card to their account. Sign-up kiosks are available at all venues using the technology, along with Whole Foods Market

stores. Once signed up, when it comes time to pay, customers can hover their palm a few inches above the Amazon One device and their account gets charged.

"Expanding the use of Amazon One as a payment option at Climate Pledge Arena will help reduce lines for guests waiting to pay, as well as remove the need for them to carry a wallet, handbag, or credit card whenever they want to step away from the action to purchase food and refreshments," says Dilip Kumar, vice president AWS Applications.

Climate Pledge Arena will have a total of 18 Amazon One devices available at the three concession areas, beginning with the Kraken's NHL home opener on Oct. 15.

"We've received incredible feedback on Amazon One from our fans and we're delighted to expand the technology to more areas inside Climate Pledge Arena," says Todd Humphrey, senior vice president of digital innovation and fan experience for the Seattle Kraken. "Giving our fans a simple, safe and fast experience at the arena is a priority for us, and we're thrilled to deepen our relationship with Amazon to enable a unique, memorable and hyper-convenient retail experience inside the arena."
