Bahrain’s Formula 1 venue has completed an upgrade of its core business and financial system infrastructure, migrating to the Microsoft cloud. The project was implemented by technology consultants from Almoayyed.

The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is a motorsport venue opened in 2004 and used for drag racing, and the annual Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix. It has been hosting the prestigious motorsport event since 2004, when it became the first circuit in the Middle East to host a Grand Prix.

Now, the venue is set for another regional first, as the BIC becomes first motorsports venue in the Middle East to migrate key business functions to the Microsoft cloud. The move is hoped to help the organisation reap cost, agility, and security benefits in line with the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) of Bahrain’s Cloud-First Policy.

Like many countries across the Middle East, Bahrain is currently working to modernise its economy. The iGA’s Cloud-First Policy sees the Kingdom’s leadership call for the modernisation of ICT through cloud-computing services to reduce costs, increase security and productivity, and develop excellent citizen services – something exemplified by BIC’s upgrade.

“We were able to achieve enhanced productivity from an always-on solution that lived in the cloud,” said Sanjeewa Karunatilake, BIC’s Finance Director. “We also make significant costs savings because of less complexity in management and maintenance, along with faster turnarounds and upgrades.”

According to Karunatilake, the new Dynamics 365 cloud platform implemented via the transformation has also already helped boost team performance. It has supplied this through real time data analysis and reporting capabilities, which are then processed through visualisation tools offered by Microsoft PowerBI technology to help teams act on the intelligence supplied.

Microsoft partner Almoayyed Computers supported BIC in its implementation of Dynamics 365. The firm is the flagship division of Almoayyed International Group, and is a leading cloud and managed service provider, based in Bahrain. Almoayyed boasts a track record of 100+ implementations of solutions across multiple verticals gained over the last four decades.

S.M. Hussaini, CEO of Almoayyed, commented, “We worked very closely with BIC’s stakeholders to deliver on their proposed timeline; and senior management, line of business, and IT teams were amazingly helpful to us on the journey to deliver the new solution.”
